Faaborg Church has undergone a comprehensive restoration led by VMB Architects. The project included essential structural repairs and a carefully considered aesthetic renewal, featuring a new colour scheme and a reconstructed floor, designed with full respect for the church’s historical context.
The lighting strategy is fully integrated into the architectural concept. The original chandeliers have been meticulously restored and relocated to the side aisles, which previously had no dedicated lighting.
For general illumination, VMB Architects selected the Gren chandelier – a fixture they designed in collaboration with Okholm Lighting. 4 pcs. GREN chandeliers Ø90 with 12 arms, 8 pcs. GREN chandeliers Ø130 with 12 arms, and 1 pc. GREN chandelier Ø60 with 6 arms have been used. Its calm, balanced light expression supports the architectural geometry of the space without visual interference.
As a refined lighting gesture, RGB-controlled LED luminaires have been discreetly integrated into the base of the niches beneath the vaulted ceiling in the nave. The luminaires are discreetly integrated into the base of the niches and enable both decorative illumination of the niches and the reflection of coloured light (1,800–16,000 K) into the vaults – adding an atmospheric dimension for concerts, choir performances, and other liturgical events.
Faaborg Church now presents a lighting solution that unites functionality, adaptability, and aesthetic clarity – in close dialogue with the architecture and with deep respect for the building’s historic and spatial identity.
