Sophienholm Art Centre and Park is beautifully situated on the shores of Bagsværd Lake. The main building, which today houses the art centre and café, was built in 1769, and the area has long been a cherished destination for visitors. The park slopes gently down towards the lake, where winding paths, old trees, art, architecture and nature come together to create a calm and sensuous landscape.

The park and the area around the art centre and the Stable Building have been given a new outdoor lighting scheme. For the project, Okholm Lighting’s Fakkel Mast M450 Kobber, designed by Brüel, Bornebusch and Selchau, was selected to illuminate the arrival area, the route towards the art centre and the upper pathway through the park.

The mast lanterns are made with untreated copper poles and clear lantern heads measuring 45 cm in diameter. They have been carefully placed among the tall trees, where they become part of the landscape and architecture with an unobtrusive presence. This restraint is essential: the lighting should not dominate the park, but fall naturally into place — both in daylight and after dark.

During the day, the transparent lantern heads stand lightly and discreetly within the greenery. As darkness falls, the clear glass dome provides a beautiful, rotationally symmetrical light, opening up the space around the paths and drawing the closeness of nature into the experience. The result is a lighting scheme that does more than illuminate the park — it supports its distinctive character: calm, poetic and precisely present.
