Nordhavn Station - Southern Passage

Nordhavn Station - Southern Passage

In the new passage at Nordhavn Station the lighting is well integrated to the raw architecture. The tunnel is clad with fiberglass-strings, where every fourth is lit up with LED. In total, there are 250 vertical, lighting fiberglass profiles that create a nice marking of the tunnel and a convincing presentation of a new short-cut between Østerbro and Nordhavn.

During the day the profiles create a nice rhythm. The choice of glass fiber as housing is new-thinking and innovative. The vertical lighting creates safety for cyclists and pedestrians, because of its effort to promote face-recognition and nice welcoming lighting atmosphere in the tunnel. Another positive thing is, that the lights don't blind cyclists or train drivers.

The light can be controlled and adjusted to the rhythm of the daylight and the year in general. The transition to the darker city area sets a contrast and would have been more comfortable if the lighting had been dimmed more in relationship to its surroundings. The project is beautiful and simple, which in a clear way creates safety and comfort. The lighting has transformed a boring transit place into a beautiful and safe environment.
